Hyperbolic-parabolic balance laws with application

Abstract:
We consider a general system of hyperbolic-parabolic balance laws. Under a set of structural conditions, we are able to establish global existence of solution to the Cauchy problem around a constant equilibrium state. L^p (p >= 2) decay rates of the solution to the constant equilibrium state are obtained. In the case of multi space dimensions we may further discuss the asymptotic behavior of solution in L^p framework. The results apply to polyatomic gas flows with both translational and vibrational non-equilibrium, and to a Keller-Segel chemotaxis model with logarithmic sensitivity and logistic growth.

The Legend of Self-normalization: Cramér Type Moderate Deviations

Abstract:
The Cramér type moderate deviation quanties accuracy of the relative error of distributional approximation and can provide a theoretical justication for the use of limiting tail probability. In this talk we shall review recent progress on Cramér type moderate deviation for self-normalized sums of independent random variables, self-normalized martingales and self-normalized quantile estimator. It shows that the moment assumptions under self-normalization are much weaker than those under deterministic normalization.

有限元方法统一框架与理论

Abstract:
此报告从三个方面介绍最近有限元(FEM)方法与理论的一些新进展。第一,针对二阶椭圆形边值问题,我们提出一个有限元统一框架。此框架包涵大部分已有的以及新的FEM及DG各类算法,揭示不同算法之间的关系已及提供统一的收敛性理论。第二, 针对任意维空间上任意阶椭圆形边值问题,我们用一个统一的方法构造一类最低阶有限元算法并证明其收敛性。第三,简单介绍一下最近新发现的深度神经网络与有限元方法之间的内在联系。最后,通过比较这这些新的理论与发现,我们提出一类有待研究的理论与实际问题。
许进超, 美国宾州州立大学Verne M.Willaman讲席教授、计算数学与应用研究中心主任,工业与应用数学学会会士、美国数学学会会士,兼任北京大学兼职教授及中国科学院海外评审专家。许进超教授是计算数学领域国际知名学者,取得了一系列瞩目的成果(如BPX算法,XZ恒等式,以及曾被美国能源部评为计算科学领域中的十大突破之一的HX-算法等)。许进超教授曾于1995获得首届冯康科学计算奖、2005年获得德国“洪堡”资深科学家奖、2006年获得中国海外杰出青年基金,并于2007年在国际工业与应用数学学会大会上作大会邀请报告、2010年在世界数学家大会上作45分钟邀请报告。曾担任北京大学长江讲座教授并入选国家“千人计划”。

Quasi-elliptic cohomology

Abstract:
Quasi-elliptic cohomology is closely related to Tate K-theory. It can be interpreted by orbifold loop spaces and expressed in terms of equivariant K-theories. We formulate the complete power operation of this theory. Applying that we prove the finite subgroups of Tate curve can be classified by the Tate K-theory of symmetric groups modulo a certain transfer ideal. Moreover, we construct a G-orthogonal spectra weakly representing quasi-elliptic cohomology. Unfortunately, our construction does not arise from a global spectra; thus, we consider a new formulation of global stable homotopy theory that contains quasi-elliptic cohomology.
