     POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Metabolomics, Exposomics, Environmental Epidemiology, Environmental Medicine, Public Health, Biostatistics, Data Science, or Related Fields

     Employment Type:

Full Time, 3 years Start Date: Spring 2018

The Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow to carry out epidemiologic research involving the analysis of high-resolution metabolomics data to study the exposomea paradigm encompassing the totality of environmental exposures and biological responses through the lifecoursein human health.

     Description of Research:

Our research projects use advanced epidemiologic and computational methods to analyze high-resolution metabolomics data for the identification of environmental, dietary, and endogenous factors linked to human health outcomes.

This position will work with multiple cohorts, including the PROGRESS birth cohort in Mexico City and PRISM birth cohorts in New York and Boston.

Other projects include the development of statistical and machine learning approaches to analyze metabolomics data, bioinformatics tools for metabolite identification, and sensor technologies for exposure monitoring.

Statistical computing uses high-performance workstations and our distributed HPC cluster MINERVA.

Our department is located on Central Park in New York City in the Icahn School of Medicine and is affiliated with the Mount Sinai Health System, the largest health care provider in New York. Postdoctoral fellows constitute a central component of the School's research organization and are meaningfully integrated within the institution to facilitate scientific growth and professional development. More than 600 fellows are supported by an office of postdoctoral affairs and an office of career services. Postdoctoral fellows may audit additional coursework for training in new areas, apply to join a competitive formal teaching program, and have opportunities for teaching in the Master of Public Health program.

The Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, which currently includes more than 20 postdoctoral fellows, has an NIEHS P30 core center with a pilot grant program to which fellows are eligible to apply and a formal mentoring and development program in conjunction with an NICHD-funded T32 training grant. The department also includes the new Institute for Exposomic Research, the first in the world focused on exposomics, and a NIEHS-funded Child Health Environmental Assessment Resource (CHEAR) data center that develops new methods for analyzing metabolomics data and a CHEAR lab hub that develops new targeted and untargeted assays. Fellows will be offered subsidized housing in Manhattan and a competitive stipend.
