Postdoctoral Associate - Therapeutic Nucleic Acid Delivery - The Massachusetts Institute of Technology

REQUIREDPh.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field; expertise in molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture and transfection, qRT-PCR, and RNA-seq; strong interpersonal, communication, and scientific skills; and a strong publication record. Experience with in vivo delivery of therapeutic nucleic acids using LNPs, AAV, or other vector, plus downstream quantitative analysis of therapeutic efficacy using genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic tools is highly desirable. Biological Engineering, to lead cutting-edge research into the formulation and in vivo application of therapeutic nucleic acids for cancer and gene therapies in the Laboratory of Professor Mark Bathe (http://bionanolab.org). A major bottleneck to all of cancer and gene therapeutics is the targeted in vivo delivery of therapeutic nucleic acids including siRNAs, mRNA, ASOs, and CRISPR ribonucleoproteins. The Bathe lab is developing structured nucleic acid nanoparticles for this purpose, functionalized with targeting ligands ranging from peptides to lipids and sugars. Responsibilities will include working as part of collaborative interdisciplinary teams at MIT, the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, and Harvard Medical School to design, synthesize, and evaluate novel gene therapeutics using a range of in vivo and in vitro models.
Postdoctoral Fellow - Institute for Cell Engineering - The Johns Hopkins University

The Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our NIH-funded pediatric surgery research group directed by Dr. Shaun Kunisaki, an affiliate member of the Institute for Cell Engineering.

This basic and translational research laboratory focuses on the regeneration of fetal organs (lung, esophagus, spinal cord) that have been injured prior to birth. We collaborate with other laboratories at Hopkins and elsewhere with expertise in cell biology and biomedical engineering.
REQUIRED
The applicant must have a PhD (or equivalent degree) and an outstanding record of research productivity. The ideal candidate has an interest in lung and/or neural development. He/she will independently perform laboratory experiments based on established procedures and protocols, including cell reprogramming towards pluripotency, in vitro modeling, animal surgeries, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Candidates with strong cell culture experience are preferred.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesPlans approach to experiments based on knowledge of scientific theory regarding fetal organ development and injury
Independently performs day-to-day lab experiments by following established procedures and protocols and utilizing appropriate technique
Maintains accurate data records and laboratory notebook.
Maintains and makes necessary adjustments to equipment, e.g., calibrating, alignment
May be responsible for routine operational activities such as ordering supplies and materials, reviewing inventory, maintaining up to date records of tests, maintenance of human and animal welfare protocols
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures
Maintains and improves training procedures and is responsible for training entry-level employees on relevant techniques
Additional responsibilities may include instructing/assisting students and postdocs contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies
Strong oral presentation and writing skills, resulting in manuscript development, drafting, and submission as first author or co-author
Travel may be required
Schedule flexibility to include occasional weekend and holidays commitment may be required
Other duties may also be assigned
Education & Experience
PhD or equivalent degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.
Special Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesRelevant techniques include histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, PCR, microarray, next generation sequencing, rodent surgery,Ability to reprogram somatic cells towards pluripotency and to maintain induced pluripotent stem cell culture
Willingness to learn new techniques
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work
Comfortable with handling small animals
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment
Ability to work on multiple assignments, set priorities, take initiative in defining and executing tasks, exhibit flexibility to respond to casual requests, exercise good judgement
