     除了上文中提到的月经结束一周后女性会出现性欲增加的情况外，还有许多女性会在排卵结束后的黄体期也感到性欲略微增加，这是因为，黄体期的雌激素水平也会有一定提升，不过很快就波动下降。而且黄体期大量分泌的孕激素(黄体酮)被证明与女性性动机的降低有关。

     通常情况下，女性每月只能排出1颗卵子，左右两个卵巢轮流排卵。但也会出现同时排出两个或两个以上的卵子。如果这些卵子分别与精子相结合，就会出现双卵双胞胎和多卵多胞胎。

     月经周期还可以细分为卵巢周期和子宫周期。卵巢周期描述了发生在卵巢卵泡中的变化，而子宫周期描述了子宫内膜内层的变化。两个周期都可以分为几个阶段。卵巢周期由交替的卵泡期和黄体期组成，子宫周期由月经期、增殖期和分泌期组成。

     卵原细胞在卵子发生过程中会通过增殖、分裂产生初级卵母细胞、次级卵母细胞和成熟卵母细胞。我们通常把卵巢刚产生的细胞叫卵细胞,经发育后的为卵子。为了方便阅读理解，文中统称为卵子。
